La Casa de los Muchachos was born in 1970 as a response to the Parroquial community of La Asuncion to the problem of social inadaptation in boys and girls of Torrelavega and its surroundings. Since 1982 those in maximum responsiblty are the Amigonians.

The house has a capacity for 9 interns those within the ages of 9 to 18 years of age.
It is assisted by three educators and one religious. Its annual income is that of 48 000 euros.
The boys within a scholarly age assist in the schools of neighbourhoods and those who are at an adult age interact in labor activities.

Those who charge a salary collaborate in house maintenance. Each month their is communication with the parents of every one of the youth in the house, sharing their thoughts of their every day of life, daily responsibilities, study, work, and daily social interaction.

The work of SOAM (Service of Orientation and Help to the Minor).
This was established during the year of 1983.
Since its inclusion in the Regional Plan of Drugs and Municipal Plan innitiated in 1996, helps in the area of prevention and has continued with its preventive labor within its development program of assistance to the enfant-juvenile population of inadaptation
and marginalization. Their age ranges between 8 and 18 years of age.

The financial support for the realization of these projects comes from the subdivisions of the government of Cantabria, by a convenial collaboration with the District of Torrelavega and by donations of members of the family foundation. It sustains itself with 5 members. The annual income is that of 122,000 euros.

The distinct areas of action of the SOAM are:

Proyect of prevention of the consumption of alcohol and cannabis.
Directed to minors under 18 years of age in the IES and Juvenile centers. The project started its activity in 1993, with the intent of giving a response to the demands of the profesors of the various institutions of Torrelavega. As a fundamental base, the sociological studies that are applied to the youngsters of Torrelavega “Salud: Aprende a beber” and “Salud : no te consumas”. The number of participants each year is estimated to about 400. This program is directed by the Service educators.

Proyect Juvenile Center- Education performed on the street in Zapatón.
In February of 1991 the Juvenile Center was inaugurated with the intention to give a response using nonformal education to the infant population of the neighborhood. This juvenile center is directed by two educators. In the same year 160 youngsters assisted who participated in distinct activities like : classes of aid, manual worshops, excursions and camping, theatre workshop, Natural center games, sport activities, workshop for social abilities, group dynamics, campaigns in favor of tolerance, etc.
From a more personal perspective we give personal accompanionment to adolescents and youngsters with difficulties of integration in the labour, family, and social worlds.

* Proyect Juvenile Center – Street education in the Neighbourhood of Nueva Ciudad.
During the year 1994, this task started in the neigbourhood of Nueva Ciudad. The activities performed here are the same ones in the neighborhood of Zapatón. The center is guided by an educator and a participation around 200 youngsters is achieved.

Juvenile Center Project – Street education in the neighbourhood of Covadonga.
As a response to the social demand of the neighbourhood during the year 2003ç the educational task in Covadonga was started. The activity in this neighbourhood is developed by an educator.

Urban Camping.
During the year 2002 the Urban Camping in the city was organized with the intention
to cover full time with the youngsters. This was an activity that was consolidated.
A participation of 200 kids was achieved. This project is directed by 6 educators and 25 voluntary members.

Project DAM (Delegate Camping to Minors).
Since the year of 1996, the SOAM, in collaboration with the Dirección General de Bienestar Social, has given response to minors that should complete judicial measures in an opening measure. There are 2 educators assigned for these tasks. The cases outreached during the year 2002 have been 32.

Proyecto Centro Lúdico Ocupacional.
During the year 2001 this project was inaugurated with the intention to assist youngsters
that arrive with judicial penalties and who cannot integrate themselves to classes or other projects. This project is directed by an educator a volunteer participates who teaches minors the use of metals, during the year 2002 there have been 8 minors who have received assistence.

School of Parents
During the last three months of the year 2002, the School of Parents in the base of the SOAM in Zapatón de Torrelavega, directed by 2 educators and two volunteers.
